Dental Sedation

Carmichael Dental Care dentist Dr. Chet Swartzentruber provides oral conscious sedation in the comfort of our Montgomery dental practice. Sedation dentistry has proven to be a practical solution for patients that experience dental fear or extreme anxiety about dental treatment. It is also an option for patients during complex dental or oral surgery procedures.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is a very simple process: Using oral medications the night before and on the morning of dental treatment, the effect of the sedative drugs places the patient in an extremely relaxed state, with the ability to walk, talk and respond to simple instructions.

For sedation procedures, we will schedule you for a longer appointment, and ask that you have a companion accompany you to your appointment and plan to stay with you after you go home.

The effects of oral sedation usually wear off within 12-18 hours. Most patients remember going to the dentist, but don’t recall much about the treatment itself. (known as an "amnesic effect").

Dr. Chet Swartzentruber has met the Alabama licensure requirements to perform oral sedation dentistry at Carmichael Dental Care. As part of the consultation process, Dr. Chet will review your medical history and dental needs to determine if oral conscious sedation is right for you.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Our practice is also equipped with nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) for a temporary relaxing effect. This can be used to help fearful patients through short appointments or as a comfort aid for patients during restorative or surgical dental procedures.

If you or a loved one have extensive dental needs, or are very fearful about dental treatment, please Contact Carmichael Dental Care to learn more about sedation dentistry.
